The death of vinyl... again!!!
'Last Stop for Hip-Hop' store Fat Beats to shutter due to poor vinyl sales
Hip-hop fans with an affinity for wax are mourning the end of an era - the closing of Fat Beats record stores.
The intimate West Village shop, one of the last in the city that specializes in selling hip-hop vinyl, is closing its doors, the company announced Wednesday.
"The business is down. The rent is up," said store manager Eric (DJ Eclipse) Winn, 40. "We've slowly lost all of the retail end of the company. ... Between the Internet and Serato [a digital DJ program] that's what hurt the vinyl sales."

R.I.P. DJ Mr. Magic
Today the Hip Hop world mourns the death of another pioneering and influential figure. The legendary DJ Mr. Magic, host of New York's WBLS-FM Rap Attack, died today from a massive heart attack. His show, which debuted in 1983 was the first exclusive rap radio show to be aired on a major station. Below is a video tribute to Mr. Magic, done by Whodini entitled, "Magic's Wand."

Ghostface does it again! Ghostdini the Wizard of Poetry

The last few weeks have been a duel of sorts between the commercially successful release of "The Blueprint III" and the the underground success of "Only Built For Cuban Linx II." Though both are great albums, this Tuesday, Ghostface Killah dropped what is (in my mind) the best and most creative of the three. Ghost took his picturesque delivery and mixed it with smoothed out hooks from some of today's hottest R&B singers to make what might be the first ever, Hip Hop love album. This album should bridge the gap between the thugs and the ladies allowing them to co-exist in the car and head nod to the same CD. Most notable tracks are "Not Your Average Girl," "Do Over," "I'll Be That," and "Stapleton Sex." "Stapleton Sex" takes you back to the Ghostface that made "Camy," a steamy, gritty hood sex scene. If you're a true Ghostface Killah fan, I don't see how you can be disappointed.
Other noteworthy albums include: "I Am Legend" by AZ and "Foundation" by M.O.P. with the high energy banger, "Blow The Horns On Em'." I'll get around to reviewing those once I get finished bumping this new Ghostface!

50's at it again!!!
Entertainment: Taco Bell Calls 50 Cent Lawsuit Publicity Stunt; Singer to Defend Himself Against Lawsuit
November 21st, 2008 Taco Bell calls 50 Cent lawsuit publicity stunt. The Taco Bell restaurant chain says rapper 50 Cent’s $4 million trademark infringement lawsuit is just Fiddy’s attempt to draw attention to himself. And while it’s true that Fiddy’s known for drawing attention to himself, the company’s recent court filing would have a judge believe the rapper’s music, not his claim against them, should be the issue. Taco Bell’s lawyers say 50’s work “falls in the subgenre of hip hop music known as ‘gangsta rap,’ a style associated with urban street gangs and characterized by violent, tough-talking braggadocio.”Full Story
