Baltimore to Atlanta!!!

In late July, I made a decision to leave the city that I've called home for my entire life. I made the decision to move to the great city of Atlanta to be closer to my daughters who live in Augusta. I know that Augusta and Atlanta are two hours apart, but that is a lot closer than the eleven hours that I used to travel to see them on holidays and summer breaks. I felt that I'd be able to see them much more often than before. Though my decision was rushed and lacked proper planning, it was not without consultation from friends (or so I thought) that relocated before me and others that have lived here their entire lives. I expressed my concerns and fears and was met with reassurance and promises of support. With that, I decided to step out on faith! Upon my arrival, I quickly realized that those were empty promises. With the exception of two individuals, everyone that promised me help and support did not follow through on their word and ignored my phone calls and texts. The people that I trusted were no where to be found. The good thing is that I found out early. I haven't had much time to really get to know Atlanta just yet because I've had to make several trips back to Baltimore to get the rest of my belongings and to tie up some loose ends. I also haven't had any luck in my job search because modern technology has virtually eliminated the walk in application process of traditional hiring practices. Despite my adversities and disappointments, I love my new place and surroundings. My faith has not faltered. I still believe that God brought me here fore a purpose and that he will work everything out for me. Now that my business in Baltimore is done, I am here to stay and ready to devote everything to making a new life here in the city of Atlanta. Hello Atlanta, I'm here to stay!!!

Party til' 3am (HOUSE BILL 429)

Baltimore City is preparing to vote THIS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2010 on a bill that would support our nightlife by allowing the clubs to close at 3am instead of 2am. I’m asking for your help by emailing one or all of the Delegates and asking them to VOTE FOR HOUSE BILL 429. Out of the 18 Delegates, 3 members of the 46th District are planning to oppose the bill and we need the other 15 members to support it.

Please Cut and Paste all of the following email addresses in your outgoing email today!
frank.conaway@house.state.md.us , barbara.robinson@house.state.md.us, shawn.tarrant@house.state.md.us, jill.carter@house.state.md.us, nathaniel.oaks@house.state.md.us, samuel.rosenberg@house.state.md.us, curt.anderson@house.state.md.us, annmarie.doory@house.state.md.us, maggie.mcintosh@house.state.md.us, keith.haynes@house.state.md.us, talmadge.branch@house.state.md.us , cheryl.glenn@house.state.md.us, hattie.harrison@house.state.md.us , peter.hammen@house.state.md.us, carolyn.krysiak@house.state.md.us , brian.mchale@house.state.md.us

Please Cut and Paste the following letter to the Baltimore City Delegates. Remember to TYPE YOUR NAME and leave any contact information you want. You don’t have to leave contact information.

Dear Delegate,

As a city resident, I am writing to ask you for your SUPPORT of House Bill 429 introduced by Delegate Nathaniel Oaks. This bill will allow the extended hours in Baltimore City for restaurants and taverns in the downtown Inner Harbor area.

HB 429 is exactly what young black professionals in Baltimore City seek. Unlike Washington, DC, Baltimore City must shut down all of its licensed alcoholic beverage establishments by 2am, some as early as 1:30am. I want to be able to enjoy the same convenience and accommodations as my DC peers.

In addition, HB 429 provides an increase in revenues for our economically challenged City. Our hotels and Convention Center will become more attractive venues and the additional hours will allow more patrons to stay within the City and avoid traveling to surrounding counties or the District of Columbia. When they stay, their money stays.

HB 429 extends the hours for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only by 60 minutes each day. This is not an unreasonable request.

Lastly, HB 429 provides protection of the surrounding neighborhoods as it is limited to the immediate Inner Harbor and does not infringe upon communities such as Little Italy, Canton, Fells Point, nor Federal Hill.

I urge you to support HB 429. I hope I can count on your support
